Services Offered
Divorce Coach Strategist
Divorce Coach Strategist work is best done prior to getting attorney’s involved as it is less confrontational and a lot less expensive. The goal is to come to mutually aligned agreements regarding the future of your marriage and your children. Most couples who go through Divorce Coach Strategist work are able to move directly to mediation instead of costly and time consuming litigation.
Most couples can have an amicable, "good" divorce. It does not have to be one partner pitted against the other. Together we can find ways to negotiate and come to understandings that benefit one another and the family at large.
Parenting (Through Divorce) Specialist
As a Parenting Specialist our focus is on the health of your children as you move through a separation and divorce. We focus on how to talk to children about the divorce. There is an effective protocol that couples need to follow and we review it and practice it – taking the fear and the sting out of the announcement. We discuss vigilance around children making sure they are adjusting to this new change in a healthy way. We talk about sharing time with the children. How to balance your new life. We attempt to create a coparenting schedule that works for everyone and how to honor that schedule. We discuss creating two separate and unique households where there might be similar expectations and rules.
We talk about creating a culture of respect, support and caring between the formerly married couple. This might sound like a high bar especially between what might be currently fighting couples but, trust me, I have happily seen it happen time and again. There is no better gift you can give your children (and extended family) but for you (and your partner) to be healthy and happy – that starts with creating a healthy working relationship with your future or now x partner.
Approach
My role as a Divorce Coach Strategist is to enable couples to keep the channels of communication open. Together we discuss and decide what a “happily ever after” can look like while preparing or already living in two separate places. Our Divorce Strategy Sessions are highly structured. We have firm expectations about how couples interact in our meetings. We require mutual respect and deep listening. We have rules of engagement for our sessions and couples are able to thrive and be productive in this controlled environment. They feel heard and understood and are able to be productive with their divorcing partner sometimes for the very first time.
My role as a Parenting (through divorce) Specialist is to advise and guide separating parents on how best to manage your children’s emotional wellbeing through divorce. We discuss how to announce your plans to your children with minimal harm. We discuss the important things to say and not to say. We talk about necessary follow up conversations and check in’s with your children to make sure they’re doing okay. We discuss the creation of two different but aligned households. We create mutually agreeable parenting plans setting up a new family unit geared to ensure your children will thrive.
Divorce & Family Mediation
My work as a Divorce Coach Strategist is informed by my Divorce and Family Mediation Advanced Training. I completed my initial mediation training at the renowned Ackerman institute in New York City, and completed my advanced mediation training at Quinnipiac Law School in Connecticut. I bring these honed mediation skills and my extensive skills as a trained psychotherapist to bear in helping couples realize a “good” divorce.
The benefits of a divorce strategist and parenting specialist are countless.
The one thing I tell my divorcing couples is this work needs to be done now. If you have children you will forever be tied to your ex through your relationship with your kids. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to communicate easily? To both attend your children’s birthday parties, celebrations, marriages, baptisms – the list of wonderful events is endless – and be in the same room and be okay with that. You cannot give your children and your family a greater gift. It’s worth working very hard to create this new, healthy, divorced family relationship and this new reality. It does not come easy – but it is worth every effort.
